SO you have someone in your family who loves cartoon characters?

Here are the results of

Movement in Squares. 4 hours in sewing time and I have no idea how long it took me to cut it out, Very easy to do and line up as long as you famliarize yourself with the pattern

Modern quilting

I am sure many of you have seen and made some modern quilts. I have these two patterns on my wall and one is 1/2 done and I wanted to share these patterns with you . The first I have been eyeing for some time and I have almost enough scraps of various colors to give it a try, The instructions are quite good. But maybe it is one you might not want to try and complete in a weekend you might need a little break

The pattern below is so easy and I have been able to cut the strips the night before, in just under 2 hours I have pieced 1/2 the top. I hope to complete the top in another day, It is a great scrap buster ( except for me - I have way too many scraps)

uneven quilting

I had my pattern going off and listing to the right.
I took off all my leaders and straightened them , and measured them to  a T. Could it be more poles or poor wrapping skills MAYBE

What do I do now.
1) I loosened up my  backing considerably so it is not so taught or creating pressure on my poles ( that look fine but I bet they are off a little in the center)

2) I put on my back and float my batting

3) I take out my olfa ruler and with it on it's side ( so I can see the numbers) I rest the ruler against the pole and measure to where my top is to be floated all along the top edge. Now I know it is straight, with my poles as a reference point

4) I then put a series of pins every foot or so along the belly bar once again measuring from the pole to the pin- I do this for the length of my ruler - that way it is easier to measure.

Now I have a straight top and a reference point about 18" below

5) As I wrap the quilt on the take up pole the desired amount I once again measure from the pole to the last set of pins to make sure that I have the same amount distance throughout the whole quilt. I can easily adjust if I am off slightly

What did I learn? I don't wrap evenly and I am off by 1/4" so that means each row gets skewed! Now I am as perfect as I can get

I am not a precise sewer. After nearly 1/2 a century you would have thought so , but I love to sew and with can make the end product look great. I had a bad week and nothing I was doing was lining up, no it was not the gremlins positioned on the flywheel. It was me and my techniques. While the last few posts are not Bailey specific I thought you might be interested in some of the tutorials and websites I have posted along the way.
